SUBCOMMITTE BREAKOUTS and REPORTS

  • Administrative
  • The American Fork Employment Center grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony went well Thursday, September 13.
  • The relocation of the Payson EC to Spanish Fork is progressing. The "new" Spanish Fork EC should be in by the end of April, 2002, ready to go!
  • Data is being pulled together for the feasibility of an Orem Employment Center. The job seeking customers base is looked at. This would be a fully functioning Center. Such a Center would alleviate eligibility rotation; traffic in PEC. The Spanish Fork EC will help ease these situations some.
  • Planning
  • One of the goals of this subcommittee is to address issues facing the working poor. We have been learning about the Food Stamp application and the recertification process as it relates to Food Stamp accessibility from DWS staff who have given a report of the Wyoming Eligibility Conference and supplied copies of the eligibility pathways, the 61SS and the recertification form.
  • Four critical areas of service were identified from the 2000 Employer

Satisfaction Survey results. 1) Increase knowledge of resources available to employers through DWS 2) Improve Quality of Applicants 3) Understanding Employer Needs and Requirements 4) Understanding Employer’s Business and Industry. UCEC (DWS staff and employer representatives) have had break out groups and compiled suggestions regarding these topics.

  • Marketing
  • Copies of the Employer Satisfaction Survey 2000 Mountainland Region EC Means were given; plus, a Qualified Applicant Plan from the SDS Business Services Team (Steve Cuthbert), dated September 14, 2001. The complete Plan giving the action plans for each of the listed categories is attached.
  • Definition: "Applicant who is connected to an employer through successful matching of registration information with job order requirements."
  • Major Cause Categories
  • Quality job orders
  • Referral Process
  • Individualized Service
  • Marketing
  • Job Seeker Issues
  • Youth
  • The Youth Council will develop a mission and a vision statement.
  • A Resource Fair has been developed for each County (Summit, Utah and Wasatch) in the Region.
  • This Council needs to look at federally required service elements and seek information to fill those services, i.e., mentoring, internships, etc.
  • Resources for ten required service elements will be developed.
  • Regional Council members are asked to find and recruit youth for services.
  • The intent of the youth program is to get youth back on the road to self sufficiency or back to school. Only youth who want to be served will be served. Those who are served will need to be determined eligible and must be a legal resident.
  • What do the Youth Reps need from this Council to better serve the youth?

The intent is to customize the program to meet youths’ needs and to have youth be vice-chair of the Youth Council (possibly in school and out of school youth).

Person Why Am I Here? How Can I Make A Difference?

Employment helps balance the Community. Therefore, there is a need to understand the entire Community and must tweak how we affect the Community.

Education is a linking pin to the Community. A great sense of the Community comes through this.

Continue to give bigger and better Community service.
