DWS Publishes New Career Guide for Teens

Salt Lake City – A new career planning resource for teens is now available from the Department of Workforce Services (DWS). The Career Guide for Teens is a free booklet geared to teens, and is a supplement to the department’s career guide, Utah Careers .

Some of the topics covered include, decision making, the value of education, nontradional occupations for girls and tips for parents, plus many more.

“Teens and their parents will find good ideas and many helpful Web links in this booklet,” said Connie Blaine, DWS Workforce Information Coordinator. “Especially now, when the economy is down, it’s important for teens to think about and explore all their career possibilities, and make plans that can get them to their goals. It’s OK to change your mind along the way, but the process of investigating careers and planning for training should start early and continue through the teen years and beyond.”

The Career Guide for Teens should be used with the main career guide, Utah Careers , which contains a great deal of career information and advice for everyone. Both publications are available at no cost at any DWS employment center, by calling (801) 526-9785, or by e-mailing wipublications@utah.gov . Both guides also are on the DWS Web site, jobs.utah.gov

All or parts of both publications can be printed, photocopied and/or used without any copyright problems.
