DWS Announces 2006 Work/Life Winners

SALT LAKE CITY – The Department of Workforce Services is proud to announce the winners of the 2006 Utah Work/Life Awards. For the eighth consecutive year, the department is recognizing and honoring companies that are creating exceptional workplaces and businesses by effectively addressing employee work/life needs. This year, the awards will be presented to companies in three categories based on size: Micro, Medium and Large businesses. Micro businesses are companies with fewer than 50 employees, Medium businesses have 50 to 500 employees, and large companies have more than 500 people working for them.

The Work/Life Awards honor employers that listen to employees and strive to create and maintain a culture of equity and opportunity in the workplace. The Award recognizes best practices and promotes their implementation in the business community.

The 2006 winning companies are: (Micro Category) Petzl America, Sewell Direct, Utah Foster Care Foundation; (Medium Category) Basic Research, Futura Industries, Nicholas & Company, Redmond Inc., Sunshine Terrace Foundation; (Large Category) 1-800-CONTACTS, ARUP Laboratories, Citi Cards, Mountain America Credit Union, and Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah.

"It was so difficult to choose the winners this year, since the finalists were such an exceptional group of employers," said Lynette Rasmussen, Director of the Office of Work & Family Life. "It's great to see that these businesses are benefiting from their work/life practices, in terms of improved productivity, commitment, retention, recruitment and morale; along with declines in absenteeism, turnover, health care and training costs. These companies are leaders in Utah—they set the example, and we're delighted to be honoring them at the Work/Life Awards celebration."

The winners will be honored at the Work/Life Awards Celebration luncheon on April 18th, 2006, at the downtown Hilton in Salt Lake City. To obtain tickets, or to find out more about the Work/Life Awards, please visit http://jobs.utah.gov/occ/foremployers.asp .
