Salt Lake City – In honor of Women’s History Month
the Office of Work & Family Life and the Utah Commission for Women and Families
announce their first annual student essay contest. Students from middle school
or high school may choose to write about any American woman, living or deceased.
Essay topics may include, but are not limited to, how this woman made a difference
to her community and why this woman is important to the student.
AWARDS:
· Grand Prize Winners will receive a scholarship to the
2007 Utah Youth Summit. This three-day retreat is designed to foster leadership
skills. Grand Prize Winners will receive an invitation to attend the 12th Annual
Utah Women’s Achievement Awards with their teacher and parents, March
29th, 2007.
· Second Prize Winners will receive books, gift certificates and other
prizes.
· All winners will be honored in a ceremony, receive a certificate, and
be given a personal tour of Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts.
· Certificates of Recognition will be awarded to all students who submit
an essay.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Grades 7-9 essays should be between 300 and 500 words.
· Grades 10-12 essays should be between 500 and 750 words.
· Essays should have proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
· Please list any sources used for the essay in footnotes or at the bottom
of the essay.
Essays must be submitted on or before February 1, 2007.

All submissions will become the property of the Utah Commission for Women and
Families and may be used in the promotion and recognition of Utah. Submitted
essays will be posted on our website.
