The latest wage data covering nearly 600 Utah occupations is now available from
the Department of Workforce Services (DWS). The wage data is available in two
forms: wage tables online at http://jobs.utah.gov/opencms/wi/regions/local.html
and a searchable database online at http://jobs.utah.gov/jsp/wi/utalmis/gotoOccwage.do.
Abbreviated summaries of the information for the major occupations are available
in the wage tables, alphabetized by occupational title, and broken out into
ten geographic areas:
“Wage information is of critical importance to both employers and workers,”
says Stephen Maas, director of DWS’s Workforce Development and Information
Division. “Employers need wage data to ensure their wages are competitive
so they can maintain a competent workforce. Workers and potential workers need
it to help them in their career decisions.”
Some occupational wages are published only at the statewide level, due to a
large enough sample being necessary to obtain valid statistics. Similarly, some
counties are combined to provide a large enough sample for statistical validity.
Wages for many occupations in Utah vary widely and are dependent upon market
demand and the level of skill and training required.
Wage data comes from the Occupational Employment Statistics survey, conducted
annually by the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
