Salt Lake City – Mark VanOrden, Department of Workforce
Services IT Director, Utah Department of Technology Services, is the winner
of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) 2007 Merrill
Baumgardner Award.
The Merrill Baumgardner Award was established to recognize an individual’s
contributions to information technology services excellence in a state workforce
agency.
This prestigious award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution
to the field of information technology in one or more workforce agencies; has
demonstrated a series of accomplishments over multiple years; and has contributed
to the greater workforce development community as well as his own individual
state.
The selection of Mr. VanOrden will be announced during a special awards presentation
at the NASWA Annual Conference in Hartford, Connecticut on September 19, 2007.
Mark VanOrden’s career with the state started in 1982 as a programmer
with the Utah Department of Employment Security (Job Service) that later merged
into the Department of Workforce Services (DWS). He has worked as a project
manager and IT manager since 1983. In 2006 he was promoted to IT Director/Agency
Liaison for DWS, a new position resulting from the centralization of the state
of Utah’s information technology functions.
