Training Seminars to Focus on Healthy Marriage and Children's Mental Health

Salt Lake City - The Utah Department of Workforce Services and the Utah Department of Health are hosting training seminars on February 1 and 2 for professional therapists, counselors, faith-based counselors, child care professionals, and family life educators.

In conjunction with Marriage Week USA, the Department of Workforce Services’ Healthy Marriage Initiative has invited Scott Stanley, Ph.D., to present "Sliding vs. Deciding™, Commitment, Cohabitation, and Marriage in Today’s World" on Friday, February 1, at the Salt Palace Convention Center ballroom. Dr. Stanley is a research professor and co-director of the Center of Marital and Family Studies at the University of Denver. He specializes in research on the prevention of marital distress and divorce, commitment, and couple development. He is a co-founder of PREP® (Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program).

The Utah Department of Health, Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (ECCS) Initiative and Utah’s Partnership for Promoting Child and Adolescent Mental Health welcomes Deborah Perry, Ph.D., on Saturday, February 2. Dr. Perry will present  "Addressing Mental Health Concerns in Early Childcare and Education Settings" at the Salt Palace ballroom. Dr. Perry is an assistant professor in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, as well as the director of the Women’s and Children’s Health Policy Center at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Attendees are eligible to earn five continuing education units each day from the Utah Psychological Association and the National Association of Social Workers and nine licensure points from the Utah State Office of Education. The cost is $40 per day. Both seminars will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and include lunch.
