Extraordinary Marriages Extolled at Awards Luncheon February 1, 2008

Salt Lake City - The Utah Commission on Marriage will recognize couples for their Extraordinary Marriages at an awards luncheon on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Salt Palace Convention Center (lower level) in Salt Lake City.

Lt. Gov. Gary R. Herbert and Mrs. Jeanette Herbert, and Adjutant General Brian Tarbet and Mrs. Mary Tarbet will present certificates signed by Governor and Mrs. Jon Huntsman Jr. for Gold Medal Marriages, Longest Married Couples, and Valorous Military Marriages. Bob and Randy Harmon of Harmons Grocery Stores will present their donation of Desirable Dozen rose bouquets to the honored couples.

Gold Medal Marriages exemplify durability, diligence, and devotion above and beyond the ordinary. Longest Married Couples are Utah couples that have been married over 69 years. Valorous Military Marriages are marriages that have weathered the storms of military life with courage, fortitude and love despite the unique challenges involved with service to our country.

The ceremony and lunch is in concurrence with a training seminar for counselors and family life educators. Scott Stanley, Ph.D. will present “Sliding vs. Deciding™: Commitment, Cohabitation, and Marriage in Today’s World.” Dr. Stanley is a research professor from the University of Denver, specializing in couple development, commitment, and prevention of marital distress and divorce. He will be available for interviews between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.
