Salt Lake City The Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS) has just released the publication, Utah Job Outlook with new projections on jobs in Utah through 2016. DWS economists use computer models to predict the growth rate and number of annual job openings in Utah for hundreds of occupations. In addition to projections for jobs in the state as a whole, Utah Job Outlook also contains projections specific to four sub-state areas: Metro, Non-Metro, Cache County and Washington County.
Lecia Langston, DWS economist, says Occupational projections provide essential information for people making career decisions. Who wants to spend years in school only to discover they can't find a job? In addition, our new way of ranking jobs allows individuals to focus on jobs that have both good employment potential and high wages. These projections are also important to training providers, who must determine what educational programs to offer in order to best meet the needs of the economy.
The new projections, by occupation, are also incorporated into the online Utah Occupational Information tool, at http://jobs.utah.gov/jsp/wi/utalmis/. The entire publication is online at http://jobs.utah.gov/opencms/wi/pubs/outlooks/state/index.html and single printed copies are available free at all DWS employment centers.
You can also order a hard copy by calling 801 526-9785, or by emailing wipublications@utah.gov. For more information about the new occupational projections data, call Lecia Langston at 435-688-3115.
