SALT LAKE CITY - SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 27, 2015) – Jon Pierpont, executive director of the Utah Department of Workforce Services, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Equal Opportunity Committee for the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). In this position, Pierpont will represent Utah on the committee and work with state administrators nationally on equal opportunity issues.
"I look forward to working with my counterparts throughout the country to help ensure that every qualified job seeker can succeed in finding employment," said Pierpont. "This will be a chance to improve equal opportunity programs in Utah and the nation."
The Equal Opportunity Committee’s mission is to provide a forum for state workforce agency equal opportunity officers to discuss current issues, develop recommendations on how the workforce system can best meet regulatory compliance of its programs under federal regulations, and advise their state administrators as appropriate. The committee has members from 35 states.
The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) was founded in the depths of the Great Depression, in the early years of unemployment insurance and employment service programs. It is an organization of state administrators of unemployment insurance laws, employment services, training programs, employment statistics and labor market information. Throughout its more than 75-year history, NASWA has strengthened the workforce system through information exchange, liaison, and advocacy. For more information, visit www.naswa.org.
