Mental Retardation and Related Concerns (DDMR)

The Mental Retardation and Related Concerns Program (DDMR) helps people with severe disabilities live at home rather than in an institution (like a nursing home).  A service plan is made for the customer.  Applications are taken through the Division for Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) and space is limited.

How to Qualify:

  • You must have been disabled before age 22 .
  • Your net income (after deductions like medical bills and an $830 earned income deduction are taken out) must not be more than 100% of poverty.  Only your income is counted, not the people you live with.
  • If your income is over the income limit, you can spenddown or "buy" Medicaid coverage by paying cash or turning in medical bills that bring your income below the income limit.
  • You must be below the asset limits:
  • 1 person - $2,000
  • Other asset rules apply if you are married.
