Physical Disabilities

The Physical Disabilities Program helps people live at home rather in an institution (like a nursing home).  These customers will get services not generally available to other Medicaid customers, such as personal care assistance, consumer training, and personal emergency response services.  Applications are taken through the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD).  This program may not be available in all areas of the state.

How to Qualify:

  • Your net income (after deductions like health insurance premiums and eligible medical bills are taken out) must not be more than 300% of the SSI rate.  Only your income is counted, not the people you live with.
  • If your income is over the income limit, you can spenddown or "buy" Medicaid coverage by paying cash or turning in medical bills that bring your income below the income limit.
  • You must be below the asset limits:
  • 1 person - $2,000
  • Other asset rules apply if you are married.
