Foster Care Program

1. The Foster Care Medicaid Program covers children who are being cared for through the Department of Human Services (DHS) or for whom a foster care payment is  being made by DHS.

How to Qualify:

  • Income, assets, and other eligibility factors will be based on the Federal IV-E legislation or the specific Mediaid program (such as Newborn, Newborn Plus, etc.) for which the child is eligible.
  • 2. Custody Medical Care (MI-706) helps children entering foster care to immediately receive health care services.  The program covers children while their Medicaid application is being processed, if they do not qualify for Medicaid while in custody, or if the health care services they need are not covered by Medicaid.

    How to Qualify:

  • There are no income, asset or lack of support requirements.  The Department of Human Service or the Department of Health Fostering Healthy Children Program Nurse can approve the program.
