Utah Refugee VISTA Project

A project of AmeriCorps VISTA and the Utah Refugee Services Office

What is AmeriCorps VISTA?

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is the domestic equivalent of the Peace Corps and one of several national service programs administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). VISTA members commit to:

  • Living and serving in some of the nation’s poorest urban and rural areas for a full year
  • Subsisting on a living stipend that equates to less than $5.00/hour
  • Creating and expanding sustainable programs for local organizations and nonprofits

With passion, commitment and hard work, their programs are designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

What is the Utah Refugee VISTA Project?

The Utah Refugee VISTA Project is made up of 13 members assisting the refugee communities in Utah in building their capacity to become self-sufficient. Many of our VISTA members have completed their year of service and continue to work with refugees being resettled in Utah.

How does the Utah Refugee VISTA Project help?

  • Integrate – Involving and incorporating resettled refugees as equals into the welcoming community
