Workforce Wednesday: Connecting statewide employers to the Uintah Basin labor force

Recent news articles have highlighted the economic challenges that have occurred in the Uintah Basin area because of changes in the oil and gas industry. These challenges have led to our Roosevelt and Vernal employment centers being busier than normal in helping individuals find work in the area. Workforce Services’ employment counselors work everyday to connect employers with job seekers. A big part of our success is the relationships we have with businesses.

One of these business relationships is currently benefiting job seekers in the Uintah Basin. A construction company that has several developments in southern Utah was recently visiting some of our employment centers statewide to find qualified workers for these projects. When the area director for the Uintah Basin area learned of their needs, she went to work to bring this company out to our Vernal Employment Center. The first day resulted in more than 100 interviews and 40-plus on-the-spot hires. The company is spending two more days in the area recruiting.

Workforce Services has more than 30 Employment Centers throughout the state. Each one brings together community and business partners for the areas they serve. They have the responsibility of working closely with businesses to understand their hiring needs and then connecting those companies to qualified job seekers.
