Workforce Wednesday: Why job fairs are worth your time

In today’s world of modern technology, there are virtual job fairs at your fingertips online and on a mobile app. Finding job opportunities has never been easier because of technology. With that said, has the day of the “Job Fair” come and gone? This question has been asked and debated in the walls of the Department of Workforce Services. We have come to the conclusion that even with the vast amount of tools available through technology, there is still great value in the traditional job fair. Here are a few key reasons why:

  • Nothing beats in-person opportunities
  • Meeting multiple employers in a short period of time
  • Interacting with the right people who are in “hire” mode
  • Comparing different employers and industries in one setting

When you show up to a job fair, it is always recommended that you do your homework beforehand and you have a strategy to make the most of your time. Here’s a recent article providing a job fair to-do checklist.
