Utah's Unemployment Insurance Program Receives National Recognition

State Honored with "Triple Crown" Award for an Unprecedented Fifth Time

SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns continue to benefit from one of the best unemployment insurance programs in the nation the U.S. Department of Labor affirmed today. Utah was awarded the "Triple Crown" for being the top performing unemployment insurance division, which operates faster and more effectively than in any other medium sized state in the nation.

"We serve Utahns in need with a remarkably efficient system, which is what this award is all about," said Jon Pierpont, executive director of the Department of Workforce Services. "This honor highlights our commitment to exceptional customer service and wise stewardship of taxpayer dollars."

The division was recognized for its operational excellence in all three of its functions: benefit payments, appeals decisions and tax operations. The award came at the National Unemployment Insurance Directors' Conference happening this week in New Orleans, Louisiana.

"Our staff work tirelessly every day to to provide accurate and efficient service for Utah's employers and job seekers," said Michelle Beebe, director of the Utah Unemployment Division. "To win this award five times reaffirms the quality of care that we approach the work we do in Utah's communities."
