Workforce Services appoints new Workforce Development Division director

SALT LAKE CITY (July 2, 2019) — The Department of Workforce Services has selected Collin Peterson as the new Workforce Research and Analysis Division director. Peterson will be responsible for the oversight and administration of the department’s management information systems (MIS), labor market statistics and economic analysis, and the Utah Data Research Center.

In his 11 years with the department, Peterson has garnered deep experience and knowledge in managing complex data systems and then analyzing the data to accurately measure performance. Prior to his most recent role as the Assistant Division Director and Chief of Data Systems, Peterson served as a senior MIS analyst, software applications system manager and MIS manager. Peterson is a graduate of Weber State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and graduated from the University of Phoenix with a master’s of business administration.

“Collin has demonstrated a great capacity to not only manage the many data systems tied to our department’s programs and initiatives, but also to produce meaningful, data-informed analysis that has improved our operations,” said Jon Pierpont, Department of Workforce Services executive director. “Collin is a great asset to our department and a valuable resource for the state.”

Peterson has developed strong relationships with other state and federal agencies to build secure, integrated data systems within Workforce Services that comply with both state and federal policies. Peterson and the Utah Data Research Center team received the Best of Utah award for “Best Partnership” at the Utah Digital Government Summit on June 4, 2019. The award recognized the center’s efforts in collaborating with several government agencies to consolidate datasets for research and analysis.

“I am honored to take on this new role,” said Peterson. “I believe the work we do in the Workforce Research and Analysis Division has a lasting impact and I look forward to supporting this talented staff in helping to continually improve our agency’s services for the people of Utah.”

Peterson will assume his duties as director starting immediately.

The Workforce Research and Analysis Division provides data and analysis to help ensure quality and efficient work tied to the many federal programs and grants administered statewide by Workforce Services and partnering state agencies. Additionally, the division’s expert team of economists and labor market analysts are at the forefront of gathering in-depth data and providing clear analysis to support Utah’s economic engine.
