SALT LAKE CITY (Dec. 6, 2023) — Rebecca Banner has been appointed as a new deputy director for the Department of Workforce Services. Banner will replace Nate McDonald, who is departing Workforce Services for a role in the private sector.

Banner has served as the director of the Office of Child Care since December 2020. She has more than 23 years of experience in public service working in management, policy, training and operations related to child care, homelessness, housing, refugees and workforce development.

“Rebecca is uniquely qualified to step into this role, with her extensive leadership background and public policy and program expertise. She will be a strong addition to our executive team,” said Executive Director Casey Cameron. “Additionally, I would like to thank Nate McDonald for more than 11 years of public service to the citizens of Utah. We wish him great success in the private sector.”

Banner is a graduate of Utah State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in family and human development. Banner started her career at the Department of Workforce Services as an employment counselor in the Workforce Development Division and later worked in the Housing and Community Development Division. During her time at the Office of Child Care, Rebecca supported the child care industry in their response to the pandemic, overseeing the implementation of more than 25 pandemic-related projects and programs.

“I appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to work with the dedicated staff at Workforce Services who are committed to public service,” said Banner. “I look forward to supporting our team and the people we serve in this new role.”
