Frequently Asked Questions
Signing on with DWS

How do I sign on with DWS?

Signing on with DWS requires a Utah ID or an account with Google, Yahoo or Facebook.

Utah ID is new as of July 14, 2011.  Anyone not using Google, Yahoo or Facebook to sign in with DWS must create a Utah ID.

Old usernames and passwords do not work with Utah ID.  If you’re trying to sign in with the username and password you used before July 14th, you will receive an error message that “either your Utah ID/email or password is invalid”.  You must now create a Utah ID.  Select “Create a Utah ID” from the login screen.

Google, Yahoo & Facebook are just one more way to sign on with DWS.  If you choose not to create a Utah ID, you may sign in with DWS by signing in to your Google, Yahoo or Facebook account.  Select Google, Yahoo or Facebook from the login screen

Note:  Do not try to enter your Google, Yahoo or Facebook username and password into the fields reserved for Utah ID on the login screen.  This will result in an error message.  If using Google, Yahoo or Facebook to sign in with DWS, you must continue to click on that option from the DWS login screen.

Can I change how I sign on?

Yes, you may change the method you use to sign on at any time.  If you were using Google, Yahoo or Facebook to sign on previously and you now want to sign on with Utah ID, simply choose “Create a Utah ID” and follow the steps to create your ID.

Note:  Each time you change your sign on, you may be directed to sign in one more time with the sign on method used previously.  This is done to validate your account/email with DWS.

Is an email address required?

Yes, to sign on with DWS requires a valid email address.  If you are creating a Utah ID, you will be asked to provide a valid email address.  If you are signing in with your Google, Yahoo or Facebook account, your email address will be the one used by Google, Yahoo or Facebook to create your account.

Note:  DWS does not allow for the use of shared email addresses when creating your sign in account.  If an email address is already in use by one family member, either through Utah ID, Google, Yahoo or Facebook, it may not be used by another family member to create a separate sign in account with DWS.  If you receive an error message that an email address is already in use with another sign in account, you will need to sign in using that account or select a different email address.

What is the purpose of a validation code or email?

When creating a Utah ID, a Validation Code is sent to your email address to ensure we have the right email address for you.  Should you ever forget your Utah ID or password, we’ll use this email address to help you recover your account.  This is similar to the process used by Google, Yahoo and Facebook to validate email addresses when accounts are created.

Note:  Always be sure to enter the correct email address when creating your Utah ID.  We will send you an email to validate your account.  If you do not receive this email, you will not be able to activate your account.  Remember to check your spam folder as some email accounts may filter this email.

How is my Google, Yahoo or Facebook account connected to my DWS account?

Once you’ve chosen the method you will use to sign on, DWS will then match your sign on account with your DWS jobs, unemployment or benefits account.  This is done by asking for a few items of personal information.  The process is repeated each time you change the method you use to sign on.
