Refugees in Utah

Utah is home to multiple refugee community organizations representing over 30 different countries of origin. The Refugee Services Office works with these groups to address community needs and coordinate services. We also host regular Refugee Leaders Network meetings with refugee leaders, community members and service providers.

Refugee Community Based Organizations (RCBOs)

Refugee Community Based Organizations (RCBOs) are refugee-led nonprofit organizations that serve the refugee population through a variety of programs and activities that support community growth. Examples of programs include English Language Learners (ELL) classes, assistance in locating suitable housing, employment skills training and job placement assistance, and programs focused on youth and the family.

About Refugee Capacity Building Grant

The Department of Workforce Services offers a grant for Refugee Community Based Organizations.

The RCBG was developed in 2010 with the goal of enabling the development, organization and integration of Utah’s refugee population. Early on, the grant enabled the Refugee Services Office to support the creation of more than 25 RCBOs, assisting with the development of bylaws, articles of incorporation, and non-profit status for groups of newly-arrived refugees in Utah. This initial focus on the formation and governance of organizations paved the way for the grant’s current purpose of program development and coordination.
