Unemployment Insurance Benefits (UI)
Welcome to your electronic resource for information regarding Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits in Utah.
President Trump signed four Presidential Memorandums on August 8, including one to offer enhanced unemployment insurance benefits by $400 per week with each state paying 25%, or $100, of this new benefit. The U.S. DOL is working on guidance for states, allowing each state to consider the cost and implementation guidelines associated with the optional “lost wages assistance.” DWS will share more information on what this means for Utahns when available, please visit jobs.utah.gov/covid19 for the latest.
The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation or $600 weekly stimulus payment program is scheduled to expire on 7/25. Any new or weekly claims filed after that date will no longer include the additional $600 benefit.
Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation- If your benefits have exhausted or your benefit year has expired, you will need to select “File New or Reopen Claim” to complete a claims application. The system will determine if you are eligible for an extension or a traditional Unemployment Insurance claim.
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance- This is a temporary federal program for individuals not eligible for traditional unemployment benefits. Some individuals who may be eligible include those who are self-employed or gig economy workers. See the CARES Act FAQ for other examples. If you have an employer and have been laid off or have had your hours reduced due to COVID-19, please apply for traditional unemployment benefits.
