Health Insurance Coverage

Roughly 280,000 Utahns had no health insurance in 2017. With a relatively high uninsured rate of 9.2 percent, Utah ranks in the top third of states for this metric. However, since the advent of the Affordable Care Act, Utah's uninsured rate has dropped by more than 6 percentage points. The following visualization is based on data from the US Census Bureau, Small Area Health Insurance Estimates - the only source of data for single-year estimates of health insurance coverage status for all counties in the United States. It also includes five-year estimates from the American Community Survey. Use the tabs for additional detail.
