Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) by State

PCE measures the goods and services purchased by or on behalf of households and the net expenditures of nonprofit institutions serving households (NPISHs) of residence for the 50 states and the District of Columbia. PCE is the largest component of GDP (nearly 70 percent) and reflects spending on activities that are attributable to the residents of a state, even when those activities take place outside of the state.

The data in this visualization come from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and are published on an annual basis. Use the tabs at the top to explore detailed PCE categories for each state and see how they compare to Utah and how they have changed over time.
