The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is committed to helping Utah businesses. DWS offers a wide range of tools and resources to assist with your business needs.


BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

  1. jobs.utah.gov: Our easy-to-use online job connection system provides information on:
    • Posting job openings
    • Reviewing resumés for qualified applicants
    • Current economic and labor market information
    • Unemployment tools and resources: File your tax and New Hire Reports, etc.
    • Business laws and federal regulations
    • Hiring incentives
  2. Access to our skilled and knowledgeable Workforce Development Specialists — equipped to provide you with information on:
    • Occupational wages to ensure your company stays competitive
    • Industry-specific labor market information
    • Educational and community partners responsible for preparing future employees

ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING PROGRAM (OJT)

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program offers reimbursement to employers who provide customized job training for participants. Employers can be in the public, private or nonprofit sector.
  • Employers will be reimbursed for up to 50 percent of the participant wages during training.
  • An OJT contract must be negotiated prior to the hire
  • OJT contracts will not exceed six months

EMPLOYMENT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES (EIO)

  • Employment internship opportunities are intended to assist participating employers with temporary work needs, while giving trainees hands-on experience in a career setting. DWS administers employment internship opportunities in partnership with employers. We will develop a training outline based on your needs and the needs of the trainee. As an employer, you will have the opportunity to help the trainee explore career options and/or upgrade his/her skills or according to the agreed upon training outline.

FEDERAL WORK OPPORTUNITY TAX CREDIT (WOTC)

  • A federal tax credit for hiring individuals from targeted groups
  • Some of the targeted groups include veterans, youth, individuals receiving Social Security, Food Stamps, or state financial assistance, ex-felons, and participants in the Vocational Rehabilitation program.
  • Annual tax credits can be as much as $2400 to $9600 depending on the target group and qualified wages.

PRE-LAYOFF SOLUTIONS

  • Help with federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) Act requirements to provide service to affected employees
  • Workshops and tools to help your affected employees cope with job loss and successfully prepare for finding new employment
  • Assistance with filing a petition for federal Trade Act assistance if layoffs are due to loss of business to companies outside the United States

Other Initiatives

UTAH PATRIOT PARTNERSHIP

  • The Utah Patriot Partnership recognizes employers that are willing to make the Pledge of Support to hire veterans. A certificate from the Governor and other recognition will be forwarded to patriotic employers making their pledge of support.
