Request to Reopen a Missed Unemployment Insurance Appeal Hearing
You may request to reopen an appeal hearing when:
- You did NOT confirm participation as required and you disagree with the appeal decision.
- You did NOT participate in an appeal hearing and you disagree with the appeal decision.
- Appeals Frequently Asked Questions
The request to reopen must be written and submitted to the Appeals Unit within 10 work days of the appeal decision date.
Your written request to reopen must include the following information:- Name of the person or business making the request
- Your address
- Social Security number of the Claimant
- The date of the request
- Statement of why you missed the appeal hearing
- Your signature
You may submit your reopening request online:
- If you are the Claimant:
- Log in to Submit an Initial Appeal and include why you believe the decision is incorrect and the relief you are requesting. A copy of your appeal will be sent to any other interested parties.
- Log in to Appeal an Administrative Law Judge’s Decision to the Workforce Appeals Board. You must state the grounds upon which the appeal is being made. If your appeal has not been filed within 30 days from the date of the Administrative Law Judge’s decision, you will need to explain why your request is late.
- If you are the Employer:
- Log in to Employer Reopening Request. Follow the instructions for submitting an appeal request. When asked why you are appealing, explain why you missed the appeal hearing.
