Purpose

Purpose: The School-Age Summer Quality Expansion (SASQE) Grant is a non-competitive grant offered to both for-profit and nonprofit organizations, with current, non-expired “Licensed” or “DWS-Approved, License Exempt” licensure for formal summer programs designed strictly for school-age youth. This grant will provide support during the summer months for when school is not in session to Out of School Time programs and centers with a focus on enhancing the quality of program experience for youth.

Eligibility Requirements

Program Requirements
To be considered eligible for this grant, an organization shall:

  1. 1. Provide a regular, formally supervised Summer camp program for youth, ages 5-12 and run a minimum of four hours per day, five days a week
    1. At no time, during identified camp operational hours, shall school-age children be mixed with younger age groups or classrooms.
    2. Youth that are five years of age; are defined as those having already completed Kindergarten.
  2. Operate for a minimum of six weeks, cumulative, during the summer months;
  3. Serve a minimum average daily attendance (ADA) of 15, or a minimum 75 percent of the program’s school-age capacity;
  4. Implement Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) components using SEL evidence-based curriculum; 
  5. Maintain a staff-to-child ratio of no more than 1 to 15 during camp operating hours throughout the summer months; 
  6. If fees are charged, offer a sliding fee scale or accept child care assistance (subsidy) in order to provide equal access for families of all income levels; and 
  7. Allow youth to attend all hours of programming each week.

For-profit and nonprofit organizations, with current, non-expired “Licensed” or “DWS-Approved, License Exempt” licensure for formal summer programs designed strictly for school-age youth.

  • RFGA Program Requirements -  revision of eligibility criteria to include programs that run a minimum of 20 hours per week, and at least four days a week
  • Attachment B - Performance Requirements - revision of the eligibility criteria to include programs that run a minimum of 20 hours per week, and at least four days a week
  • RFGA - update requirement that applicants must respond within 72 business hours to any DWS requests for additional information during the review period.
  • Appendix B - Program Site Information and Narrative has been updated to allow for additional characters in the SMART Goal Identification and the Field Trips/Guest Speakers narrative fields.
