Purpose
Background and purpose
The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) utilizes funds from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Block Grant awarded to states to provide the opportunity to develop and implement creative and innovative strategies to remove families from a cycle of dependency on public assistance and into work. TANF projects are required to meet one of the four TANF purposes set by Federal TANF regulations. Organizations must provide TANF Family Housing grant opportunity falls under TANF Purpose 1 and 2. This Grant Opportunity is limited to Morgan, Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne counties.
Purpose 1: Provide assistance to needy families so that children may be cared for in their own homes or in the homes of relatives.
Purpose 2: Reduce the dependence of needy parents by promoting job preparation, work and marriage.
Eligibility Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Organizations planning to apply must;
- Have the ability to determine TANF Family Housing Program eligibility.
- Grantees must serve TANF eligible families and determine eligibility as outlined in the TANF eligibility verification process found on the DWS Contractor website: https://jobs.utah.gov/services/tevs/tanfcontract.html
*Accommodations for this requirement may be considered for Domestic Violence Shelters

- Organizations may add additional eligibility requirements limited to attendance of financial literacy classes and good tenant workshops
- Have the ability to determine TANF Family Housing Program eligibility.
- Organizations must coordinate with the Department of Workforce Services to provide services according to the TANF Family Housing Employment Pathway.
Who may apply:
- The following are encouraged to apply: local governments, public or private not-for-profit organizations, faith-based organizations, state offices and agencies, units of local governments and Indian Tribal governments that offer housing services.
- Programs that have a religious affiliation will be required to provide assurances that grant funds will not be used for religious instruction
- Collaboration between multiple agencies/organizations is encouraged; however, a lead agency must be identified
