Transition Plan for USOR to Workforce Services

In the 2016 Legislative Session, House Bill 325 was passed that required the transition of the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation to the Department of Workforce Services. On June 1, 2016, the final transition plan was submitted to the Legislature and posted online for public viewing at

Jon Pierpont, executive director of Department of Workforce Services, also submitted a letter to Legislators describing the department’s priority of a successful transition and the steps taken to create the plan and execute it by October 1, 2016.

$3.5 Million Education and Workforce Alignment Grant Program Announcement

The Utah Cluster Acceleration Partnership announced $3.5 million in grants for Utah educators and industries to educate and prepare students for high-demand jobs. The announcement came at an event held today at Natural History Museum of Utah.

Utah Department of Workforce Services Executive Director Jon Pierpont highlighted the importance of aligning educational opportunities with economic needs.

“In Utah, we enjoy a healthy economy and a strong public education system, but it takes a collaborative effort to ensure that they line up with each other,” said Pierpont. “These grants help students prepare for employment and meet the workforce needs of industries in the state.” More...

Governor Herbert urges Utahns to donate to the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund

After meeting with individuals who are experiencing homelessness on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, Gov. Gary R. Herbert encouraged Utahns to donate to the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund on their Utah income tax form.

"In every part of our state, we have individuals and families experiencing homelessness — some for a single night, and some for weeks or months," said Gov. Herbert. "Donating to the trust fund provides support directly to the services they need most, like emergency shelter, healthcare and food.
