Winter overflow shelters for the Salt Lake area

As more people experiencing homelessness seek shelter during colder weather, additional beds are needed to help the most vulnerable during the 2022-2023 winter season.

The Salt Lake Valley Coalition to End Homelessness plans to provide 340 overflow beds for men and women experiencing homelessness. For families experiencing homelessness, hotel/motel rooms will be available. All beds are anticipated to be available by the end of November 2022.

There will be 340 overflow beds available during the 2022-2023 winter season as they are needed and as staffing needs are met. All intake and bed assignments will occur at Weigand Homeless Resource Center downtown with shuttles to and from each location.

  • St. Vincent De Paul Dining Hall, 65 beds
  • Former Calvin Smith Library in Millcreek, 100 beds
  • Pamela Atkinson Resource Center, 75 beds
  • Gail Miller Resource Center, 50 beds
  • Geraldine E. King Resource Center, 50 beds

Three meals a day will be provided at St. Vincent De Paul Dining Hall and the Weigand Homeless Resource Center. Meals will not be served at dedicated overflow locations.

All locations will have on-site security. Millcreek City, Salt Lake City, and South Salt Lake City received funding through Utah’s Office of Homeless Services to fund public safety efforts and operational support to mitigate community impact.
