Seasonal hiring tips and resources

As we enter the winter and holiday season, many businesses experience fluctuations in demand for employees. Seasonal hiring and recruitment strategies are essential for businesses with variable demand. Here are some things to consider, and some resources, to help you with your seasonal needs.

Start early. Plan your seasonal hiring well in advance to ensure you have adequate time to recruit, screen and train your seasonal employees. This will also help you tap into a larger candidate pool.

Hire quickly. You'll likely need to move fast in hiring for your positions. You can use an applicant tracking system to automate invitations for interviews and let candidates know if they didn't get the job. Group interviews are another effective way to save time through the process.

Make your job posting stand out. Write a detailed statement describing the job opening; the language should be objective, tangible and quantitative. If acronyms or abbreviations are used they should be universally understood. Share any perks and benefits that come with the job. Avoid the use of subjective terms and personality traits, such as honest, reliable, mature, etc. Save prescreening for these traits for the interview.
